Milton Justice teaches The Stella Adler Technique
Milton Justice teaches The Stella Adler Technique
Join us for a five-day intensive program focused on technique, analysis, and performance.
The Technique
Having worked with Stanislavsky in Paris, Stella Adler established a definitive and highly acclaimed acting method, which she passed on to notable actors such as Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro. The exercises she presents exemplify the fundamental principles of engaging with a play and screenplay. From unravelling the fundamental idea of the text to examining character, action, circumstance, and background, each exercise propels the actor through an experiential progression in the development of a role. The initiation of every class will comprise fundamental technique exercises.
Script Breakdown
One of the most difficult endeavours for actors is mastering the approach to text. Stella Adler adamantly asserted that “your talent manifests through the choices you make.” However, the question persisted: how does one attain fresh, captivating, and suitable choices? By thoroughly analysing the script, the play is deconstructed and the character’s essence is revealed, allowing the actor complete freedom to overcome clichés. A specific text will be selected for examination, providing the actor with essential elements to tap into their creative instincts.
Scene Study
See the technique being put into practice. Following the selection of a scene, a meticulous breakdown of the text will be undertaken, followed by comprehensive discussions on character backgrounds, and the incorporation of improvisations based on the text to serve as the starting point for the rehearsal process. A thorough and formal process that leads the actor from the first read through to a fully realized performance of the scene.

and Stanislavsky’s work to lift acting to high artistry through the use of the imagination and blood memory.
